The Iris Garden of Florence might not exceed in reputation its more renowned counterparts, but, on the other hand, it is in the highlight in May when it hosts the International Iris Competition. One should not necessarily be crazy about flowers in general and irises in particular to appreciate the event, but they might just as well participate in view of discovering the wonders of the art and science of iris growing. The competition is crowned by a ceremony held at the Palazzo Vecchio, where the winner is elected.
